Qualifications:  Dr. Machesky is pursuing board certification by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.  She is a Family Practice doctor working at our Schoenherr office. She is board certified in Family Practice. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Machesky is on staff at St John Hospital and Medical Center. She graduated from Wayne State University and completed a residency at Bon Secours Hospital in 1998. Prior to coming to Cornerstone Dr. Machesky worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer.

Philosophy: We treat every patient as though they are family. We will make every effort to treat your needs within one day. We are open all day Monday through Friday and Saturday morning. Dr. Machesky starts many of her days at 7:30 a.m. for patient convenience.

Massimiliano Vitale, MD

Qualifications:  Dr. Vitale received his medical degree from the University of Rome, Italy and completed his residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. He is also a member of the American Medical Association.

The total patient is our primary concern, and we pride ourselves on providing personal and friendly care. Qualifications:  Dr. Benderoff is a Family Practice doctor working at our Romeo Plank Medical Center. He is board certified in Family Practice. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Osteopathic General Practitioners of Michigan, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association.  Dr. Benderoff is on staff at St John Hospital and Medical Center

James Maciejko, MS, PhD, FACC       

Qualifications:  James J. Maciejko, M.S., Ph.D., F.A.C.C. received graduate degrees from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  He completed a fellowship in lipidology at the Mayo Clinic (1983). He became Director of the Preventive Cardiology Program at St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit and Director of the systemís Lipid Laboratory, which is certified by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the Centers for Disease Control Lipid Standardization Program.  He is an active clinical researcher and educator on lipoprotein metabolism and the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.  He has published more than 70 original scholarly papers in leading medical journals and is the author of two books, The ABCís of Coronary Heart Disease (2001) and Atherosclerosis Risk Factors (2004).

Gerald Cohen, MD       

Qualifications: Dr. Gerald Cohen is Director of Noninvasive Cardiology, Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Co-Medical Director of the Lipid Clinic at St. John Hospital. He is board certified in cardiology, internal medicine, and echocardiography.  Dr. Cohen graduated from McGill University and trained at McGill affiliated hospitals and the Ottawa Heart Institute. Before joining St. John Hospital, he worked at Detroit Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic.

Philosophy: I believe that prevention comes first by using counsel and medicine to help my patients overcome disease and addiction and improve their health. Research and teaching help me stay current so that I can give my patients the best and most innovative health care
